For the last three years, we’ve been making our bags next to the ocean, in beautiful Encinitas California. While we wouldn’t change a thing, we now need more space – both personally and professionally. After stacking rolls of fabric to the ceiling of our converted garage workshop, there was just nowhere else to go. We even purchased a cargo trailer to store equipment and inventory. Nevertheless, we’ve traded the sounds of commuter trains and Coast Guard helicopters for roosters, horse, and peacocks. White Apple is now located in Ramona – about 30 miles east of Encinitas, in the foothills of the Cleveland National Forest.
So what do these changes mean for us and our customers? Hopefully a lot, and very little. Firstly, we expect no delays since our operation was moved over the course of a weekend (Whew!). Second, we anticipate many positive changes since we’re now located on an acre of land. Probably the largest is that we’ll be purchasing and repurposing a shipping container for our workshop. This eco-friendly option will give us twice the space as before in a compact indoor/outdoor setting. Our extra space will allow us to produce custom orders quicker (goodbye 4-6 week turnaround??) Stay tuned for pictures of the whole build-out process! We’ll also be making a number of eco-friendly lifestyle changes that a coastal workspace just wouldn’t allow – a garden, rainwater irrigation, biodiesel, raising chickens… Since we now have room for a garden, and dedicated compost, we’ll also be composting our burlap remnants rather than just throwing away the scraps…
Again, we are excited about all the big changes and will be sharing them as the happen. We hope you’ll keep watching facebook for more updates and photos.
